Macdonald’s Ghost

A presentation at Interpretation Canada’s 2021 National Conference (online).

Few figures in Canadian history trigger as visceral an emotional response as John A. Macdonald. How do we facilitate thought and dialogue about him today, knowing what we know about his legacy? How do we navigate around managers and agencies that still take a reverential stance toward him? I spent the last two years working on Macdonald-centred projects—this session was about what we learned.
