If you had asked me years ago what would be the hardest thing about self employment, I might have said something about the business side: accounting and insurance and taxes and all of those scary self-employment things. Turns out they're not difficult at all.

You know what's the hardest thing? Scheduling and work planning. I write out Gantt charts and critical paths and I portion out my time, but then something happens on the client end and everything gets pushed back so that it coincides with the other large project that was scheduled for that time. It's a never-ending juggling act, and the schedule never, ever turns out as planned. This is my life at the moment. I have many balls in the air, but no idea exactly what I'll be doing in three months' time.

I'm learning to relax and trust that it will all work out, and I'm happy to be busy.

Interpretive signs course?
Many of you have asked if I am offering my course in developing interpretive signs this year. I definitely hope to do so this fall or winter. At the moment I am trying to settle my work plan for the fall —I want to make sure I have the time to give the course my full attention.
As soon as I am able to identify a date for the course, I will let you know through this newsletter.
