Interpretive Writing for Behaviour Change

June 5, 2025 10:00- 10:30 AM Pacific Time

Interpretive signs can do more than inform—they can influence behaviour.

…but changing visitor habits takes more than a catchy headline. In this 26-minute session, we’ll explore how to write signs that actually work. You’ll get a crash course in the Theory of Planned Behaviour—a simple, powerful model that explains why people do what they do. We’ll look at how to use the theory to craft messages that support better choices, backed by real alternatives. We’ll also talk about baselines (because you can’t fix what you don’t measure), and how signs fit into a bigger picture that includes design and enforcement.

Ideal for interpretive writers, field interpreters, and managers trying to tackle chronic visitor issues through signage.

Hey friend, just curious if you can help me locate where you are posting the recordings of these sessions afterwards? I thought it was on the blog but I must be mistaken and love to share this session in particular with a number of field interpreters who were unable to come. Thanks!
