The Southern Gulf Islands of British Columbia are surely one of Canada’s best-kept secrets. I would stack them up against the most beautiful of the world’s island retreats, and yet you can travel there in the height of summer and be surrounded by nothing but waves, eagles, and laid-back locals. My favourite feature- aside from the bird life- is the local transit system: they’ve set aside spots along the road where you can wave down a fellow islander to get a lift to your destination. Civilized, wot? Go there.
